Architecture
Metric Manager leverages Monolith's ITM Core architecture (LAMP/Web 2.0). This architecture is split up into 3 layers: Presentation, Database, and Collection.
Presentation Layer
Metric Manager's Presentation Layer utilizes ITM Core's Apache/PHP to display Performance Overviews, Trending & Graphing information, and custom Dashboards. Monolith's flexibility and extensibility, allows for easy creation of custom views of metric data to better match the needs of your business and operations.
Database Layer
Metric Manager's Database Layer runs entirely within ITM Core's MySQL instance. Metric Manager stores historical metric data and all Metric Manager configurations and templates. Due to Metric Manager's central configuration and support for remote polling it is possible to create an entire system of metric consolidation from a single pane of glass.
Collection Layer
Monolith strived to create a unique and highly useful solution in Metric Manager. The power of Metric Manaager lies in its ability to capture and store any type of metric data. In order to support this concept Monolith created a variety of components at the collection layer . Pollers, Collectors, Connectors and Agents.
Pollers
Pollers perform just as the name implies. They actively poll devices for specific variables. Pollers can be configured manually or dynamically via polling policies. They can also be auto configured via Monolith's auto-discovery & auto-configuration capabilities. Metrics are then thresholded using the standard thresholding engine which also has the ability to produce notifications (email, syslog, traps, etc).
Collectors
Collectors are components that collect device performance and availability from either a middleware package or generic input ( Hyperic, Flat File, etc). Metrics are then thresholded using the standard thresholding engine which also has the ability to produce notifications (email, syslog, traps, etc).
Connectors
Connectors are components that capture device performance like collectors, but do not perform thresholding (Solarwinds, Microsoft MOM, Zabbix, etc).
Agents
Agents are components that integrate with Monolith's Generic SOAP collector to perform easily configured checks (DNS, NTP, Email, etc). These metrics are then thresholded in the same fashion as the Pollers and Collectors.
